Coldplay: 'Religious Lyrics Come from School Assemblies'

Coldplay singer Chris Martin says that the religious imagery in some of the lyrics on the band’s new album ‘Viva La Vida’ comes from school assemblies.

The band’s new album, which was released on Thursday (June 12th), includes a number of references to traditional Church of England teachings.

Asked in an interview with BBC 6Music, where they had come from, Martin replied: “Probably because I think you talk about things you saw a lot when you were a kid so we grew up with school assemblies, being constantly told about that kinda stuff - so it’s bound to come out.”

Martin walked out of another radio interview earlier this week when asked a similar question, saying that he didn’t want to talk about it.

As previously reported on Gigwise, Coldplay played a special show for family and friends at Wembley Arena in London last night.

The gig was a rehearsal for the bands forthcoming world tour, which begins in Los Angeles next month?
